"Barrelhouse"
1) A "juke joint", a bar or saloon. Originates from the storage of barrels of alcohol.
2) An early form of jazz with wild, improvised piano, and an accented
two-beat rhythm.
We think this sums us up pretty nicely.
Inspired by the classic dive bars of the southern states, we've aimed to create a hybrid venue that combines the vibe and aesthetic of a dive bar with a good old traditional British boozer. Couple that with a laid back service style and great tunes we feel like we're onto a winning formula.
Situated in the heart of Clifton next to the Student Union, this historic pub has changed hands many a time over the years, now settling under the management of the team that also brought you the Vittoria and The Ship Inn.
Our kitchen is open six days a week serving hot and fresh Detroit-style pizza, and you can enjoy our signature Happy Hour from open til' 10pm Monday-Saturday. With a
back-to-back roster of events, a sun-trap roof terrace, pool table, extensive cocktail
menu and great selection of draught beers and ciders, what's not to love?!

THE SHIP INN, BRISTOL
Re-opened in October 2024 after a prolonged closure, The Ship Inn has been re-vitalised and refreshed, bringing all the best parts of our well-loved pubs closer to the city centre.
Our signature Happy Hour is in full swing from 4 til' 8pm, boasting a delectable selection of £6 cocktails and affordable beer, cider and spirits. The Ship Inn isn't short of in-house entertainment either, with Shuffleboard and Darts areas, as well as being host to a plethora of events ranging from quiz nights to karaoke to live music. A: Absolutely! From open til' 9.30pm everyday, our kitchen is slinging out hot and fresh Detroit-style pizzas, with delicious focaccia dough that we make in-house daily. We also offer a bunch of tasty sides and snacks to tickle your tastebuds. Why not drop by on a Monday and enjoy 2-for-1 Detroit pizza slices?! Oh, and we are also available on Uber Eats!
Q: Do you have vegan/gluten free pizzas?
A: Most of our vegetarian options can also be made vegan. Gluten free bases are available upon request, but we recommend pre-ordering via phone or email to make sure we have some in stock for you.
Q: When is your happy hour?
A: From when we open until 10pm, Monday-Saturday (yes, really!)
Q: Do you have a pub quiz?
A: We run a quiz every Monday at 7:30pm, entry is £2 per person.
Q: Do you have karaoke?
A: Yes! We have a karaoke machine that can be booked for private parties, or swing by on a Tuesday for our drop-in karaoke night.
Q: Do you offer discounts for industry or NHS staff?
A: We do! Please bring valid ID, and you can claim 10% off your drinks bill. (Please note the discount cannot be applied to drinks already included in our happy hour deal.)
Q: Do you accept cash?
A: We are a card-only venue, our apologies for any inconvenience.
Q: Do I need to bring cash to play pool?
A: You can play with contactless at the table.
